Dr. Passoret Vounba joins the organisation as Programme Officer for AMR in Bamako, Mali

Mr. Passoret Vounba started his new role as Programme Officer for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) at the Regional Representation for Africa, based in Bamako (Mali) on 1 July 2022. Passoret’s mission is to support the implementation of the WOAH Strategy on AMR at regional and national levels in Western and Central Africa. He will form part of a continental and international network of WOAH staff, working on this particular subject, with colleagues in other Regional and Sub-Regional Representations and WOAH Headquarters.

Passoret’s role is also to contribute to the overall implementation of WOAH mandate in relation to animal health, veterinary public health and welfare in Western and Central Africa, in line with WOAH’s 7th Strategic Plan, with particular emphasis on promoting awareness of AMR and enhancing antimicrobial stewardship in the veterinary profession, assisting the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and WOAH Members strengthen national drug regulatory authorities in the animal health sector and develop a One Health surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial use. In addition, to liaise closely with the Tripartite and UNEP – Quadripartite – counterparts at regional and country level, i.e. in West and Central Africa.

Passoret, a national from Chad, graduated in Microbiology from the Univerté de Montréal, Canada with postdoctoral researches in the McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Before joining WOAH, Passoret was the Laboratory Expert for the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) based at Libreville / Gabon.
