The OIE Sub-Regional Representation for North Africa organised – under the context of REMESA – a workshop convening experts for laboratories from eight countries in Southern part of the Mediterranean basin (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia) with the general objective of improving knowledge on biosafety and biosecurity in the laboratories of North Africa region and part of Middle East.
The workshop aimed at targeting items for diseases that are considered as priority in the region also in light of the recent epidemiological situation such as FMD and Avian Influenza.
The workshop was also designed to be appropriately interactive by allowing countries to present their experiences in terms of biosafety and biosecurity to highlight positive and less positive outcomes.
International experts – including those from OIE Reference laboratories – participated in the workshop as speakers so to share their knowledge and experience on biosafety and biosecurity in the laboratories.
A total of about thirty participants attended this workshop and they all noted the interest of its topic.
