Introduction

The goal of the P3V project is to improve access to quality Veterinary Services for livestock farmers in Francophone Africa. This project, which is being implemented initially in Senegal and Togo, will enhance communication, capacity building of veterinary paraprofessionals (VPPs) and capitalisation of learning to support regional capacity building.

Objective

Through the P3V project, WOAH and its partners aim for three specific results: 

  • Improvement of the legal and regulatory enabling environment, allowing the harmonious and coherent development of different categories of veterinary personnel, including VPPs. 
  • Strengthening of the skills and competencies of VPPs through the improvement of initial and continuous training. 
  • The development of a sustainable socio-economic environment to facilitate the integration of VPPs into the veterinary workforce. 

The project is being implemented with the following partners:  

  • The Interstate School of Veterinary Science and Medicine (EISMV)- Dakar, Senegal 

and five VPP training institutions in Senegal and Togo: 

  • The Institut de formation agricole et rurale (ISFAR) in Bambey, Senegal  
  • The University of Sine Saloum El Hadj Ibrahima Niass (USSEIN) in Kaolack, Senegal  
  • The Centre national de formation des techniciens de l’élevage et industries animales (CNFTEIA) in Saint Louis, Senegal  
  • The National Institute of Agricultural Training (INFA) of Tové in Togo;  
  • The Institut supérieur des métiers de l’agriculture (ISMA) in Kara, Togo ;  

as well as the agricultural and rural training network (FAR) 

and Veterinary Services and Statutory Veterinary Bodies (VSBs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and programmes and projects involved in the livestock sector in the two target countries.
