The Sub-regional Representation of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) for Eastern Africa was officially inaugurated by Honorable Dr. Mohamed Abdi Kuti, EGH, Minister for Livestock Development of Kenya and Dr Bernard Vallat, Director General of the OIE on June 6, 2011.
Dr. Walter Masiga, former Director of the KARI veterinary research centre, Muguga and former Director of the Interafrican Bureau of Animal Resources of the African Union and now the OIE Sub-regional Representative, started the office on 1st January 2010.

The Sub-region covers the following countries : Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and will soon include Southern Sudan.
The inauguration was followed by the first working session with the 12 Delegates of the sub-region and with the Southern Sudan representative as an observer. The meeting discussed the work program for the sub-region for the year 2012. The working session was followed by a lunch at the Rangers’ restaurant and a game drive at the Nairobi National Park, 10 minutes away from the city centre.
