The World Organisation for Animal Health regrets to learn about the passing away of Dr. Joseph Wamukoya, who was the Director of Veterinary Services in Kenya and OIE Delegate from 1989 to 1994. Born in 1942, he was among the pioneer veterinary doctors in Kenya and whose contribution to the veterinary fraternity was immense.
He was a lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi and served as chairman of Clinical Studies Department from 1979 to 1981.
Dr Wamukoya served Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA) as its chair from 1984-1985. Dr. Wamukoya ventured into politics in 1997 and served as a Member of Parliament (MP) until 2002 a period during he also served as an Assistant Minister for Lands and Settlements.
