Dr Thomas Daido Dulu has just joined the OIE Sub-Regional Representation for Eastern Africa as Programme Officer, on a three-year secondment by the Government of Kenya. Thomas will coordinate the ongoing global livestock diseases eradication and control programmes in the region, in particular the Eastern Africa strategies and roadmaps for the Progressive Control Pathway for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD-PCP) and the Global Eradication Programme for Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR-GEP), working closely with relevant regional and national stakeholders in eastern Africa.
Thomas is a Kenyan national (° 1960) who graduated as a veterinary surgeon (B.Vet.Sc.) from the University of Nairobi (Kenya) in 1985 and went on to obtain a master’s degree (M.Sc.) in comparative mammalian physiology from the University of Nairobi in 2009. He has further strengthened his academic credentials through numerous programmes from training institutions in Sweden, the US and China.
He embarked his veterinary career in 1985 and entered government service in 1990 as a Divisional Veterinary Officer in Narok and later Kericho Counties within the former Rift Valley Province. Over the next 27 years he took on more responsibilities at district and later provincial veterinary services, to finally integrate the national Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS), following a successful assignment at the Pan- African Rinderpest Campaign (PARC). Dr Dulu was successively entrusted with progressively more encompassing technical dossiers such as disease free zoning, foot and mouth disease control, disease surveillance, disaster management and controls. Having been a Deputy-Director of Veterinary Services since 2010, he became Senior Deputy-Director for Policy, Veterinary Advisory Services and Animal Welfare Services in 2015 and acting Director of Veterinary Services in 2017.
