We are excited to announce that the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Sub-Regional Representation for Eastern Africa has relocated its offices at Vet Labs, situated in the scenic and strategic Kabete area of Nairobi, Kenya. This move, which took place throughout October 2024, marks a significant milestone in WOAH’s mission to enhance animal health and welfare across the region.
Previously based in Upper Hill, Nairobi since its establishment in 2009, the WOAH Sub-Regional Representation for Eastern Africa plays a vital role in coordinating animal health initiatives across 13 countries: Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The relocation to Vet Labs offers a more dynamic and resourceful environment to better serve member countries and support ongoing collaboration with regional partners. It brings the team closer to vital veterinary research institutions and laboratories, fostering a more integrated approach to improving disease surveillance and Animal Health which remains at the core of WOAH’s mandate.

Further, in September 2024, Dr. Neo Mapitse took over as the new Representative following the retirement of Dr. Samuel Wakhusama, who served from 2017 to August 2024. Under his leadership, the team continues to focus on building strong partnerships with national Veterinary Services, implementing regional programmes, and driving WOAH’s global mandate of improving animal health for a safer and healthier world.
As WOAH’s presence in Eastern Africa grows stronger, this new office will enhance the Organisation’s ability to build synergies with regional partners and strengthen veterinary services across the region. We look forward to continuing our work from this new location and making even greater strides in animal health for the Eastern Africa region.
