Peter Van den Brande
It is with great sadness that we were informed of the passing away of our veterinary colleague Peter Van den Bossche.
He died in a car accident in Antwerpen, Belgium, on November 11th, on his way to work. Peter (48) was a lecturer at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerpen (ITMA) and has trained countless African veterinarians over the past decade.
Others will remember him as technical advisor of the Regional Tsetse and Typanosomosis Control Programme (RTTCP) for Southern Africa, based in Harare, Zimbabwe. At the ITMA, he headed the Animal Disease Control Unit and was also the promoter of the thematic network on zoonotic disease (One Health). He was appointed Extraordinary Professor at the Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases (DVTD) of the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Pretoria in 2002. As such he was a (frequent) guest lecturer at the Onderstepoort Faculty (and recently also as partner in the OIE Collaborating Centre at the DVTD).
He leaves behind a wife and three children
