On June 02, 2025, Dr Wendmisida Victor Yacinthe Guigma – Yacinthe to his friends – joined the World Organization for Animal Health as Consultant/Technical Coordinator of the ZOOSURSY Project. He returns to WOAH after serving as Technical Coordinator of the EBO-SURSY project at the WHOA Regional Representation for Africa (RRA) based in Bamako (Mali) from 2021 to 2024.

This position is made possible thanks to the support of the European Union, which is funding the project, which aims to improve knowledge and management capabilities to strengthen surveillance systems for priority emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases at the animal-human-environment interface in seventeen (17) countries in West, Central, East and Southern Africa.

Dr Yacinthe is a graduate of the Ecole Inter Etats des Sciences et Médecine Vétérinaire (EISMV) in Dakar, Senegal, and holds a master’s degree in veterinary public health.

Professionally, he was Technical Coordinator for the EBO-SURSY and REDISSE 4 Central Africa projects at WOAH’s RRA. He has also worked for the Burkina Faso Ministry in charge of animal and fishery resources, where he held the positions of coordinator of the anthrax control project, director of animal health and acting director general of veterinary services.

From 2016 to 2021, he was head of the animal disease epidemiological surveillance network and WHOA’s focal point for animal disease notification. He was actively involved in setting up and operationalizing the One Health platform in Burkina Faso, where he was vice-chairman of the thematic commission on surveillance, detection and response.

Prior to joining WOAH, Dr Yacinthe Guigma held the positions of One Health and Wildlife Specialist and National Coordinator of the Pandemic Fund project at the FAO Representation in Burkina Faso.

He is delighted to contribute to the implementation of WOAH’s policy of promoting the “One Health” approach and strengthening zoonotic disease surveillance at the interface between animals, humans and the wildlife environment.
