Dr. Viola J. Chemis officially joined the organisations’ Regional Activities Department (RAD) on 1 June 2022 as the Regional Programmes Coordinator. She is a delocalised staff, working from the Sub-Regional Representation for Eastern Africa, based in Nairobi, Kenyas
Viola’s mission is to contribute to the improved coordination and implementation of regional activities, by supporting the coordination along with the GF-TADs regional coordinator and the Tripartite (Quadripartite) coordinator in Paris. She will follow up specific GF-TADs and Quadripartite activities in relation with relevant central departments and regional or sub-regional offices.
Viola, a Kenyan citizen, is a graduate of Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine and Master of Science in Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology; both degrees from the University of Nairobi (UoN) in Kenya. While working with different livestock programs, she proceeded to pursue a Master’s degree in Business Administration, specialised in Strategic Management at Kenyatta University, Kenya. In addition, she has taken short courses and continuous professional training on market systems development, results-based and project management, disaster risk reduction, best practices on improving resilience building, livestock emergency guidelines, participatory methodologies, leadership and values-based approach to development among others.
Before joining the organisation, Viola worked with Precision Development as the dairy production specialist where she provided technical expertise for development of digital solutions for small holder producers. Before that, she worked with different organisations in different capacities, among them: Heifer International, ILRI, VSF Belgium and the Kenya Network for Dissemination of Agricultural Technologies (KENDAT). She served in diverse programmes and projects that promote animal health, welfare, sustainable production systems, climate adaptation and mitigation, emergency response, policy development, food security and resilience building.
Viola is looking forward to contributing to the overall implementation of the organisation’s mandate in relation to better coordination and implementation of regional activities, aligned with the 7th Strategic Plan at the regional and sub-regional representations and in relation to control of transboundary animal diseases and one health.
