On 1 October 2025, Dr Géraldine Coronado-Pertriaux officially joined the WOAH Sub-Regional Representation for Southern Africa based in Botswana as a technical expert in veterinary public health.

This position was made possible thanks to the support of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a secondment via the Expertise France agency.

Based in Gaborone, Dr Géraldine Coronado-Pertriaux will provide technical support to the various projects implemented by the Sub-Regional Representation for Southern Africa, particularly on AMR and SPS measures for trade in animal products at regional and sub-regional level.

She will also contribute to the implementation of the One Health approach at the sub-regional level through projects led by WOAH and its regional partners.

Géraldine will be part of a continental and international network of WOAH staff and will work with colleagues from other regional and sub-regional representations, in collaboration with the headquarters.

Dr. Coronado-Pertriaux has a dual degree in veterinary public health and social sciences ; she studied veterinary medicine and then veterinary public health at the VetAgro Sup campus (Lyon, France), notably at the National School of Veterinary Services (ENSV-FVI). She then obtained a master’s degree in public policy analysis at the Institute of Political Studies SciencesPo Lyon. By writing her master’s thesis on the One Health concept, Dr. Coronado-Pertriaux acquired additional expertise in the analysis of public action in the field of veterinary public health and on the challenges of an approach that encompasses environmental, social and political dimensions.  Dr Géraldine Coronado-Pertriaux then furthered her work through a PhD in the sociology of public action at CIRAD (UMR MoiSA).  She devoted her thesis to the study of animal disease eradication policies and the emergence of ‘living with’ as an alternative form of public action, based on a case study on the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean.

Prior to this research experience, Géraldine worked as a veterinary public health inspector at the Office for European and Multilateral Negotiations of the French General Directorate for Food in Paris as part of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Before turning her career towards public action in the field of veterinary public health, Géraldine gained solid field experience as a veterinarian in various contexts, with additional experience in research and development at a technical livestock institute (IKARE) based in French Guiana.

Continuing her career at the crossroads of fieldwork, public action and research, Dr Coronado-Pertriaux is delighted to join the WOAH teams and contribute to the implementation of WOAH’s mandate in veterinary public health in Southern Africa, within the framework of WOAH’s 7th Strategic Action Plan and the ‘One Health’ Quadripartite’s Joint Action Plan  (2022-2026).
