A ceremony is organised to honour the outgoing OIE Regional Representative for Africa, Dr. Yacouba Samaké.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, the OIE Regional Representation for Africa, on behalf of the Director General of the OIE, Dr Monique Eloit, hosted a lunch in honour of Dr Yacouba Samaké of the OIE.

Those who responded to the official invitation of the Government of the Republic of Mali were : Dr Koné Ouayara, Technical Advisor, representing H.E. the Minister of Rural Development of the Republic of Mali, Mrs Mariam Kone Diané, Former Minister and Programme Manager at the Ministry of Rural Development, Dr. Koné Traoré Halimatou, the OIE Delegate from Mali, Dr Boubacar Diallo, the Director General of the Central Veterinary Laboratory of Mali, Dr. Hawa Doumbia Dolo, Inspector General of Veterinary Services of Mali, Representatives of the FAO, FAO-ECTAD, AU-IBAR and the Honorary President of the OIE, Dr Amadou Samba Sidibé. Also taking part in the lunch were many friends and former colleagues of Dr. Samaké.

The Samaké family, guests of honour at lunch, were represented by Dr Yacouba Samaké, his wife, his two children and their spouses.

Over lunch several people took the floor:

  • Dr Karim Tounkara to trace the career of Dr. Samaké and thank him for his contribution to the implementation of OIE activities and also to pay tribute to his wife Mrs. Fatoumata Samaké,
  • Dr. Koné Ouayara on behalf of H.E. the Minister of Rural Development to confirm the upcoming honorary distinction to Dr. Samaké by the Government of Mali and to make a personal testimony,
  • Dr. Yousouf Kaboré of FAO-ECTAD to deliver the USDA certificate in recognition of the contribution of Dr. Samaké in setting up the networks of animal disease diagnostic laboratories in Africa
  • Mrs. Mariam Kone Diané and Mr. Modibo Toure from FAO with personal testimonies.
  • Mr Souleymane Koné, office clerk, to thank Dr. Samaké on behalf of the staff of the Regional Representation.

In response to various interventions, Dr Yacouba Samaké thanked all the guests for their presence and expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to his professional success.

Over lunch the staff of the Regional Representation offered gifts to Dr. Yacouba Samaké and his wife.

Lunch was held in a very friendly atmosphere.
