Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant threat to global health, food security, and economic development. The WOAH plays a critical role in supporting its members to combat AMR in the animal health sector. While many countries have developed National Action Plans (NAPs) and surveillance systems, a critical gap remains in translating international standards into tangible national policies, curricula, and, most importantly, frontline veterinary practice.
This workshop addresses the urgent need to bridge this gap. It will combine high-level advocacy for integrating WOAH standards into national veterinary systems with practical strategies for operationalising Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS). By targeting key influencers and educators within the veterinary profession, the workshop aims to create a multiplier effect, ensuring sustainable improvements in the responsible use of antimicrobials across Africa.
