ALERT is a collaborative board game designed to strengthen the engagement of the various stakeholders involved in One Health surveillance of zoonotic diseases. It is intended for both local communities and professionals working at local, decentralised and national levels in public health, animal health and environmental sectors.
The ALERT tool was created as part of the European Union (EU) funded EBO-SURSY project and its deployment continues with the ZOOSURSY project, implemented under the EU-funded One Health Initiative (EHI) through its Global Gateway strategy. The tool was developed by the EBO-SURSY consortium to support One Health surveillance, promote good surveillance practices, highlight the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, and foster intersectoral dialogue.
Educational games are increasingly recognized as effective tools for raising awareness and changing behaviors, particularly in the area of infectious and zoonotic diseases.
This initiative helps to place communities at the heart of disease surveillance systems while encouraging closer intersectoral collaboration.
As zoonotic disease threats continue to evolve, innovative awareness-raising tools such as ALERT game can help bridge the gap between technical knowledge and community engagement, thereby strengthening the resilience of surveillance systems.
